Share Sunday Appeal. Draw near.
Responding in compassion to human need, together we participate in God's mission.
Everyone deserves access to a home, to food, to education and a job.
Share Sunday.
Share Sunday is a time for all parts of the Uniting Church in Victoria and Tasmania to celebrate the collective community work of our agencies, parish missions and congregations.
The Uniting Church has both a deep history and a contemporary commitment to responding compassionately to those who are experiencing pain, trauma, hopelessness, or despair.
Share Sunday is an opportunity to turn our attention to the ways in which we are seeking to build a more just and equitable society.
This year’s theme is ‘draw near’, inspired by Psalm 34:18
The Lord is near to the broken-hearted and saves the crushed in spirit
We invite you to think about the ways we draw near to human need because we recognise and celebrate the inherent dignity of every person.
The suggested date for congregations to hold a Share Sunday Service is on Sunday 25 August, however you can choose to hold a service at any time.
Worship resources
A set of worship resources has been created to support congregations choosing to hold a Share Sunday Service.
These resources include:
- PowerPoint slides to support and encourage prayerful reflection
- Videos featuring Uniting staff talking about what inspires them in their work, and the different ways they draw near to human need.
Please adapt the resources to suit your needs.
Additional resources
The following resources are also available for download to make it easier for you to enable us to continue responding compassionately to those in their time of need, so we can seek to build a more equitable society for all.
- A poster to display at your church, incorporate into your service or distribute by email with your church newsletter
- A donation coupon that can be downloaded and shared with your members via email for them to complete and return
- A link to make an online donation in support of Share Sunday
- A form to order self-mailing donation envelopes to distribute to congregation members at your service.
