More than 700 firefighters and emergency service personnel stepped up to fight cancer, depression, and suicide by participating in the 11th annual Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb.

The climb involves ascending the gruelling 28 floors of Crown Metropol wearing full firefighter kit (including 25kg of firefighting equipment).

Uniting’s Lifeline Melbourne service was once again honoured to be chosen as a beneficiary for the eighth consecutive year.

Six Lifeline Melbourne Crisis Support workers and 2 Uniting staff members had the privilege of donning the full firefighter kit and taking part in the climb.

The event surpassed its initial aim of $750,000 for Cancer Research and Crisis Support, raising just over $800,000.

From the funds raised, $325,000 went to Lifeline Melbourne to ensure we can continue answering calls from people who reach out for help in their darkest moments. With a cost of $39 to answer each call, funds raised by the Firefighter Stair Climb will help answer 8,333 calls.
