Why affordable housing matters.

Affordable housing is more than just a roof over someone’s head; it’s the foundation for stability, security, and a brighter future. Across Victoria and Tasmania, thousands of individuals and families struggle to find safe, affordable homes, putting them at risk of homelessness. By donating to Uniting, you can help create sustainable housing solutions that provide long-term security for vulnerable people in our communities.

Access to affordable housing is essential for preventing homelessness. When people have stable housing, they are better able to maintain employment, access healthcare, and support their families. Unfortunately, rising rental costs and a shortage of affordable properties leave many people at risk of housing insecurity.

Affordable housing not only benefits individuals, but also strengthens society as a whole. Safe, stable homes reduce the strain on social services, improve health outcomes, and enhance economic participation. Supporting affordable housing initiatives means investing in stronger, more inclusive communities.

Uniting's commitment to affordable housing

At Uniting, we believe everyone deserves a place to call home. Our approach to affordable housing includes:

The impact of affordable housing donations

Your generosity can transform lives. With donor support, we’ve been able to assist families leaving unsafe living conditions, ensuring they have a secure place
to rebuild their lives. We’ve provided stable housing solutions for individuals at risk of homelessness due to rising rental costs, preventing them from losing their homes. Young people transitioning out of care have also benefited from housing and support services, giving them the foundation to move toward a brighter future.

Every contribution makes a tangible difference, helping vulnerable members of our community find security, stability, and hope for a better tomorrow

We recently opened our new $18 million community housing development in Wangaratta providing much needed affordable accommodation for people living in the region.
